Hi All!
I am currently a Senior Software Engineer(Backend) with 4 YOE. My current CTC is 21LPA (All Fixed) with additional Yearly bonus. I got a call from Google (Pune/Bangalore/ Remote) for Software Engineer - Backend. I have the following doubts but any insights are welcome -
1. Does the lower designation offered make any difference?
2. Kinda ambiguous, but what kind of hike or ballpark pay can I expect?
3. Any similar interviews experiences or focus areas I should prepare for?

Ad school or right place right time internships
Nooo don't start in accounts. Even an internship is better in strategy while you wait it out for a job. Once you're in accounts it's much harder to get off that track, you're typecast. Jr positions are far & few but they do come along. You need extreme patience, tons of hustle & some $ stream to life off while you wait.
I managed to network into it cold. You have to hustle for sure. Don't just write boiler plate emails and hope for a response. Read people's blogs, check out their work, and then message them about that before asking if they are hiring. Also, always ask if they know someone else you can talk to, and send a personalized thank you. And follow up every few weeks. Jr roles come up every now and then, but you'll get the call for interview if youre courteous and top of mind. It amazes me that many people trying to get jobs as strategists fail to apply the principles of understanding an audience to their job hunt
Chances are very slim
As 72andSunny1 said, right place right time. I went in for an accounts internship, showed an account director work I had done in school (social strategy, content strategy, some social media management) and asked if I wanted to work in strategy. Bringing a portfolio got me to where I am right now. Interned for 7 months and have been a full time planner for a year and a half.
