Recently got contacted by recruiters from two MBB.

I have a good standing at my firm, with good reviews and on track for promotion.

I am afraid of being unlucky on projects and being CTLed/PIPed even though I have already proven my worth at OW.

Is that a fear that even makes sense? Can anyone at one of the MBBs bring their own perspective? TIA

It is a fear that makes sense - for what it’s worth I’ve had two colleagues at BCG that came over from OW and they both did fantastic at BCG, one made partner and the other is on track to.

like

I’d be curious as to which shops.

I think it really depends on what your end goal is. Do you want to be partner, or are you in it for another year or two before an exit?

If you’re in it for P track, stay at OW. It’s difficult to build credibility back up again, especially in this environment. Experienced hires have a much higher turnover rate and are generally far more dissatisfied than homegrown staff.

If you’re looking for a quick resume hit, go for gold. My friends with MBB always seem to get exposure to the best exits and the name brand does carry in industry.

like

Thanks a lot for your input! It was super helpful.

What do you mean by getting the right exposure at OW? Tbh, I am feeling very frustrated with the last review, knowing there wont be enough time to have more repetitions, which would prove consistency to be promoted

Regarding the prestige bump, yea it could be nice but I dont really mind about it. That is not on the top of my head.

Main concern is not having enough projects outside of FS

Take MBB brother and don’t look back

like

That's a legitimate fear. Almost nobody thinks it will happen to them until it does. But this could be your chance to advance, and could be worth the risk.

Caution: you have 2 recruiter contacts, not 2 offers, right? Don't overthink this early.

like

If you are early career, leave on good terms. You can boomerang if MBB does not work out.

Get the offer and then decide.

like

If you want to get out of FS work, which sounds like you do, I would do it. OW is bleeding heavy right now so the fact that you’re being recruited by MBB, id say they have a need for someone. Give it a shot - ow will always be around to come back to

likeuplifting

I get what you say by bleeding heavy even though do not think it is an OW thing.

I think (strategy) consulting is going through an earthquake and everyone is realizing now more than ever that implementation is there to stay and forget charging the ridiculous prices we used to for a PPT (or "strategy plan") only

In the end, I agree with you that we are too FS-focused and that honestly bothers me a bit... Even though I understand it is where the money is at

Go through the process but there’s lots of ctl-s happening and a slow down in work. My friends at OW seem happier. But I’m also one person. I’m trying to exit

like

I would love to get reached out by recruiters.

uplifting

Go through the process

Go through the process then decide. IMO the fact that you’ll be restarting your network/reputation at MBB is a significant risk if your concern is losing a job. You are young, so you can take a risk, but the current macroeconomic headwinds have made all consulting less forgiving

Get an offer first, then worry about other stuff.

Hi! I am a pharmacy technician trainer in New England and I'm interested in salaries in Virginia. Currently up north, I make $26.11/hr to train new techs and pharmacists and have received a raise every year since 2019. Is this there anything even comparable in VA? I have 3 years experience and an associates degree in health science. Is it even worth looking?

Hi all! I work at a nonprofit and am looking to leave the organization. As I browse available positions in my area, I’m realizing there is a LOT of crossover between my current org and others, for example shared board members, folks who are on our board and employed at one of the institutions I’m interested in, etc.. Is there a way to say “my current org doesn’t know I’m looking, so please treat my interest with discretion” that doesn’t raise red flags? Thanks!

Advice: my firm incentivized associates to get licensed in fed courts - 4 fed courts for a 5k raise. They also covered the admission fee. I just accepted an offer with another firm and will be putting in my 2 weeks notice tomorrow. Is it wrong to submit an expense report for the charges I incurred related to the fed court admission fees? I didn’t plan on moving to another firm; the new firm sought me out and made me an offer - the process happened so fast. I want to be professional about this.
