Hi fishes,
I am planning a switch so was going through some salary data for a software engineer. My ex-senior manager recommended me a website: Growceed.com which helped me a lot in getting clarification about a lot of things but I am in doubt whether the average salaries of software engineer mentioned on Growceed.com really that much in top MNC companies.

Ask what you need for the role not for what you need for your ego

Oh well, so just because you know DSA and someone else doesn't, you're more qualified and the other one is not.
Wow.
There are a lot of things to boast about, well unfortunately knowledge of DSA isn't one of them (unless you're telling it to college students on LinkedIn,which you're not).
You are not conducting competive exam.. You have to check that person can work or not.. Even if they answered all the ds question.. Will you cerifiy that person is suitable for your project???
Just change your attitude... I have interviewed more than 100 people, most of the people those who theritically answered not performed well in my project.. But I gave opportunity for the people those who are have good learning attitude.. They performed well most of the time
I feel for that person those attented interview with you.
I if they doesn't know the topic don't think they are not good in technical..
You will understand the pain when you go for interview..
Interview should be knowledge transition session not a session for showing attitude..

@Author.. so you still feel that after such an evolution in technology, greatest products are build using binary tree, linked lists etc. ??
Hmmm... That's cute
Actually he was right and I'm pretty sure you don't even use these algorithms in your team.
While taking interview you all say that our team works on this and that and what not and you will be able to explore your knowledge and utilize your skills properly but finally we end up fixing defects and doing patch works and code refactoring. Lol
In how many projects you have used binary tree????
H..

I am with all discussions are happening here, Author do ask for basics, yes your basics needs to be strong. If one fails to answer the basics then it may not shows he is not good at.. The interview is for 1 hour, that's more than sufficient to understand ones knowledge and to decide upon if he/she fits for the requirement or not.
I understand he didn't knew DSA and algorithms.
That's fine.
Then you should've checked his logics by giving him coding questions.
Check his approach.
Remember selectors used to call Ms Dhoni but he had his own set of skills.
Bottom line , there multiple ways to examine a candidate 👍

The author has started a cult post 😀
Many interviewers ask these kind of scenarios only which we never have implemented in real time. I totally don’t understand are u taking someone based on theoretical knowledge or actual working knowledge. Ask scenario which are used in real time. And few company interviewers are very much egoistic that even they don’t have knowledge(can get to know by their questions) but they have ego only coz of brand(comp they r working). Few ppl demean n use harsh words. I recently got some one this kind where for my every correct answer he used to say this is wrong I have nt understanding the question n used some harsh words. Even though many answers were 100% correct he used to demean it n say u r wrong and when I said I’m sure it’s correct for one answer he started arguing n used abusive words. At that point I got it he wants to prove he is correct n I’m wrong so I just told to consider I didn’t answer that question or I was wrong please let’s continue but he kept going on n on on that topic itself. I kept quiet but at one point of time I said him if u want to continue with the interview kindly do it in a professional way, and it’s not me who is not understanding ur question it’s you who could not convey it properly. Later he continued the interview in a normal way. I wanted to reject their offer right away I didn’t wanted to take it up for next round also but I wanted to voice out my opinion to HR so I completed all the rounds and during HR round I told them what happened in one of the rounds and asked them kindly have someone in ur panel who r professional n not silly immature person like that guy! Since my other rounds had went very well n panel was impressed by my interview I had a good weightage to clearly voice out my experience, HR said not to take it in a wrong way n was offering me more than expected ctc but I rejected as it was for that particular project where that person is peesent. I do not want toxic ppl around me n it’s not the only company after all in this whole world. Self respect is what matters not ctc. To that dumb ass guy I wanted to tell u have got no knowledge to take someone’s interview which I told to HR. And no one has right to use abusive words against anyone. If u do not want to hire me perfectly fine but do that in a professional way. I had never come across such a worst interviewer ever!!
