OP - at 95k you were underpaid. That's Producer money not Senior. Sounds like you want to get the EP title on a move. Maybe you can get that but now you're going to screw yourself over on the salary. Two years and then jump again to a new agency. I won't take a staff EP gig for under $200k these days. A handful of places can pay more than that. Do - EP at $130-140k. Two years jump to a new agency as EP at $170-180k. And repeat in 3 more years to get to $200k. Obviously you need the right work and the right agency to go with it. Not going to happen if you aren't in NY or LA (maybe Chicago). But you might get lucky and become a head of production after a year and then all this goes out the window and I'm working for you.
I don't think you're that off. When I last applied as a sr. producer I told them I expected around $110-$120k. I got $115k. I think the key to getting to EP is really showing you can manage a team. It helps if you're mentoring a couple producers already. Also, doing things outside of just the normal production work helps. Starting to get an understanding of pipeline, making suggestions for how the team can work smarter, redefining the process when you see it no longer works...that's the type of behavior that's beyond the role of a senior, and it's what leadership looks for when it comes time for promotions.
Spot on EP 2. I'm at a top agency in NYC and make well over 120k with the potential for a lot more. So for EP it's really $160k above depending on experience.
I'm in New York. My last Sr Producer gig came with 4 reports and a lead slot on a $12M account. I was overseeing up to 20 projects at time. That was 95k and I felt underpaid. I'll note that Glassdoor Agency Sr Producer salaries are sometimes up to 130s. Although I'm assuming that's the top top end of the scale.
Where are you located and looking? You are way way way off. Have you looked at glassdoor. That should be very telling.
Thanks all!
Where do you live?
I would ask for a lot more if you're looking for an ep job. Especially in NYC.
