Da wut? That’s a lot of nouns. So you’re in NYC carrying a senior a role for director of whatever or something, and then interested in negotiating tips for offers?

If you can't get them to say a number first, lie about what you make. I make +/- 20% based on my freelance work so even if they did some kind of check - which they won't - you could still technically be telling the truth.

AD1- recruiters are no longer allowed to ask what you make currently, it’s literally illegal as of Oct 2017. No need to cite today’s pay.

Not comp related but a question on references: I’ve only had 2 direct managers, current one is nice but I can’t let him know I’m interviewing. Previous one was a bully and I made clear that I cut contact with him when I left (he later had to contact me for non-essential work related stuff but I declined to talk). I have other references I could use, but want to prep for situation when employers ask “why can’t we talk to your previous manager.” Thanks!

Currently in the US but interviewing for a UK-based firm and role. The comp level they are throwing around is £250k TC. Is this reasonable for a Director-level role with 12 YOE? My comparator would be wait 18-24mo to become a consulting partner - in the US that starts at $450k/£325k. For the purposes of this question, assume I’m optimizing for initial comp, not long term potential, and not livability, Intl experience, WLB, CoL etc. Thanks!

First time I interviewed at my current firm I didn't make it past my second round due to a bad review from an interviewer. Applied again a year later and got hired. In between that year, the interviewer who wrote me a bad review got fired due to poor performance. Moral of the story, it sucks that one person can mess up your job search so badly but don't give up! Often times it's not you, it's them!
