No, that’s not something you should have to put up with. I was at a larger firm previously where every senior had absolutely atrocious project management skills. I would have thought it was borderline intentional, to fluff up billables, except most matters in the group were on a flat fee. I moved to a much smaller regional shop and almost cried with joy during training because everything is organized in a way that makes sense. There’s no excuse for firms with 30x the revenue to be such a shitshow, and I would advise you to jump ship.
Can you elaborate? I don’t think I can comment further without knowing your year/practice/exact situation. Though what you described pretty much sounds like big law (esp the hours and stress).
4th year corporate. Without getting into too much detail, the group is flailing from a lack of support staff and everyone is overworked with no light at the end. I have emails from partners to HR expressing concern for associates’ mental health, but of course doing nothing about it. Just feeling like this cannot be sustainable, at least not for me.
I’m sorry you’re putting up with this type of behavior and lack of support. My experience with big law is that the senior people you directly work with can make a difference (both good and bad). Sounds like you have it really bad here.
I would try to lateral.
Sounds like a normal day down at the funny farm. Did you lateral from a non-biglaw gig? Not minimizing your pain, but I would say that it's not necessarily an atypical big law experience. I've been living that reality for quite some time and am largely numb to it.
