Saw the post about HMO v. PPO. I'm looking at much cheaper HMO option and want to know what is really wiser. We are having a child soon, for the first time. But surely HMO would be fine for that?

If you already have a PCP, OB/GYN, doula, midwife, hospital, etc. — I would double check that they accept your HMO. Don’t go into it assuming that they do!

I had an HMO for a number of years. Generally good experience in that you feel more inclined to see a doctor for things you might otherwise ignore. That said, your choices are limited to a degree. In addition, if you or a family member travel out of state, it’s not quite as seamless.

Like most things in life, you get what you pay for.

What amount deductible are you looking to pay? There’s a good variation even among HMO and PPO, so make sure you have one that fits your budget.

We had a child and the Kaiser HMO basically covered everything. Liked the idea of having one location with many departments so getting tests done post a doc visit was easier. My company at the time covered premiums for the while whole family as well which was a huge plus. Probably the best insurance coverage ever had but again depends on the coverage plan plus if you are okay staying within HMO network

My wife is in sales at Mercedes and she has been averaging $200k a year and growing YoY. She loves her job, however she works long days and barely gets time off. We want to find a career that allows her to work remote or that at least gives her a better work life balance so that she can see her kids grow up. Working Moms/Dads: Do in-house positions exist with flex time hours? I need to be able to leave work at 4pm to pick up my son from daycare, but i can get back online at home to resume any unfinished work at 8pm. Is this realistic to convey to any companies in an interview? Pandemic aside, is face time 9-7pm really important? Or should i just try to find a job with a salary that covers a nanny salary and accept that i will never see my son on weekdays (which would be sad for both of us)? TIA!

What would be the ideal location for me to search flat. I prefer gated community with amenities inside as I have small kid and can take her in the park than going out. How would the rent be? The man I love is now married to someone else. He was my best friend since university (were now in early 30s), we never pursued anything romantically (was too scared to tell him) and now he’s married to someone else and they have a baby girl. I went to see them and they have this perfect home and family. His wife is perfect, pretty & young and smart. I’m still single. I want to be happy for him but I was so jealous and sad and felt like crap. I can never tell him. Just had to let it out. :((

How to become good friend of manager?

From a financial standpoint in this market, which would be a better approach in Austin -

1. Buy a ~8-850k house that meets most of our ideal criteria (size, schools, interiors etc) to stay long term

2. Buy a ~5-550k house that’s not ideal with the plan of moving into an ideal home in 4-5 years when kid is ready for school.

How easy is it to get a mortgage for the second home?

Household income - 300k

Happy to add more details as needed

I’m going to be a dad! But I have some questions. When should I tell my manager/teams? I’m up for senior promotion this year, will this impact that promotion? For those of you that work in public what tips do you have for managing your work and family responsibilities? For context, my wife, once she’s done with maternity leave, will only work 25-30 hours a week. I know working in public and having a new born is probably going to be a lot to juggle, but I have to make it work.

Anyone have advice for advancing in your current role? My co-worker was hired in at manager level but somehow “proved” he was actually doing director level work and got a title promotion and salary increase in less than a year. I also went above and beyond my job as well (covering for him for a month while he was away on paternity leave) while taking on other projects outside of my job title and got zip—no raise or recognition. Any advice would be appreciated!

Hi Techies,

I have received an offer from Latoken. Everything is good, just have 2 concern points :

a) The salary will be paid in USDT which when converted will have 30% tax in India per the recent budget guideline.

b) Not coming from the tech background, so I am not sure about the underlying technology Latoken uses and its use case.

Can any tech guy, help me.understand and guide as to how should be my thought process and approach towards this offer ??

Does anyone have recommendations on which plan to go with for each child? I once did the pros and cons on a whiteboard and it seemed like 529 was better.
