Hi Fishes,
Does Deloitte USI have any cool down period, if you apply and do not get any response from the company? I had previously applied in a role, but didn't hear back from them. So, I'm planning to try to apply via referral this time and I'm wondering if I should use the same e-mail ID or a different one! Deloitte USI
I have 80 days for my LWD. I have completed the Digiverification and yet to start preonboarding process. I have been receiving quite some mails to complete the process. I'm in dilemma whether to complete or not as I'm giving few more interviews now.
Can anyone suggest by when we have to finish the preonboarding process.

I do think for some roles, it’s helpful to see how a person thinks through a problem and presents that information publicly. A portfolio of work you were associated with won’t really show me your process. Homework does.
I do empathize that it’s asking a candidate to do “free” work for a job they might not get, perhaps while they are working another job. I try to make the assignment one that requires some thinking but not one that would require an enormous amount of time.
I only ask for homework from a candidate I am close to hiring, for roles and seniority where it is necessary. I realize that might not describe the roles the original poster is referencing, though.
You sound like an awful hiring manager… nobody should ever do free work. Especially during an interview process.
Pay aside, homework is such an obvious sign of insecurity on the hirers’ part.
It immediately screams that the hiring group either doesn’t know what they want, they aren’t experienced enough to know what to look for, or are so absolutely risk averse that even if you did get hired, your work is going to be intensely scrutinized.
There are far better ways to get at how “someone thinks” than to send them home with homework. And at the end of the day, this is still a creative business powered by humans. We have to accept the risk that not every single hire is going to be perfect, and own that risk.

I hear ya VPSP1… but Creative 1 hits the nail on the head. Whenever I’m interviewing for a role on my team, I follow the exact plan Creative 1 laid out above for the final 2 selection candidates… and it’s never been wrong.

How can you call yourself an advertising professional and not be able to judge someone’s skills off of their book?

Also seeing an increase of imposters that have impressive interview skills but can’t actually do the work. An assignment is a good way to weed those people out.
That being said I would never do free work.

Those who know what they’re doing never hire based mostly on the interview. Especially in this business where silver-tongued hacks are a dime a dozen.
I barely did my homework in high school. I’m sure not doing any for some clown who doesn’t know how to conduct a proper interview
I’ve seen so many duds hired that cannot do the work and PIPs are such a nightmare when someone talks a good talk in the interview process but doesn’t have the skills to do the job. So I now endorse the take home assignment. In the reverse as a job seeker I have also done take home assignments for jobs that I really wanted and would do it again if asked.
For sure. We did rethink our interview approach but there are a lot of people who can say all the right things but can’t tactically do basic work. Since we added the assignment to our interview process we have been very happy with our hires.
Make sure they pay for the time.
