Seeking advice. Been in industry for about 3 years, and I was looking to go back into public for better career growth and learning opportunities with PA. My current employer does not support masters nor getting cpa, but a recent cpa firm I interviewed at said I know longer have the relevant experience to thrive in public as a senior tax associate. Can anyone advise how to successfully transition back into public and what additional skills I should pick up? Thanks for input!

Any type of specialty group? Or just a generalist? In either event, just about the right timing. But if you are in a speciality group would probably be easier.

I’d say I’ve become more so a specialist in SALT on income tax taking over majority of the state income tax returns, franchise returns, snd gross receipts obligations for states and localities. I do aspects of fed return, but the last few years my compliance has been more SALT driven.

What kind of skills, traits and/or behaviors have you shown at a job that got you a promotion? I look at some LinkedIn profiles and see that they’ve been promoted after less than a year and I always wonder how they present themselves and what am I doing differently?

I spent a year in tax investigations where I believe I was thriving ( I was going to be an assistant manager in July 2023), I had a lot of assistant manager jobs, I even drafted a Code 9 report to HMRC which my manager said was 80% of an actual report, he then added the 20% and submitted it.
After I realised I couldn't maintain all the unpaid overtime I was working I decided to take a turn and go to compliance, so now I work in CT compliance. I feel very surpressed.
