Yes, it shows that you put a full weeks worth of work into something and then you can add it to your title as if you are equal to a doctor. It’s totally not pretentious and people never remove your resume from the pile when they see it

Certainly not helpful, but I want to get my big PiMPn certification so I can spend dat cheese

The hope that employers want from PMPs is that you are somehow better that project management. But if you take the class, you realize that absolutely none of it is practical, and the entire class is based on memorizing answers. Like…you’re not going to help me somehow run my business if you’ve memorized that “ARMA” stands for “autoregressive moving average” or that BARF stands for “bought-into, approved, realistic, formal”

Like really, tell me…how do you earn my company extra money by telling me what BARF stands for.
What is your ROI in knowing that

like

Do it if it’s free from your company. Otherwise it’s like $1k down the hole

More valuable in public sector work. Checks a box for compensation/roles but from a value perspective…minimal. Only makes sense if you want to be a PM

Would I be dumb to start a PhD?

I just finished my MBA. I’d never even considered my masters until my employer paid for it. My MBA helped me get a huge pay rise and I’ve just settled into a new role that I love.

I’ve just been offered a full scholarship for a PhD in a topic I am passionate about, already an active advocate for and with academics I sincerely admire. The topic is directly for a study I already contribute to every year.

I want to do it, but don’t want to f*ck the rest of my life
