If you’re going to do that, I highly encourage you to keep your fixed costs small, live small, and don’t get used to the lifestyle ratchet that comes with raises / promotions.
Save your money, keep your options open, limit debt that requires continuing to run at the same pace.
I’ve struck a middle ground, but I like the work and have no plans to change.
Great answer. I've kept my spending relatively flat despite raises, to the point where I'm saving 50% of take-home while still living the life I want to live. Feels great knowing I could afford a pay cut if I really wanted to leave
