SM here at PwC. Job is very demanding, but has its benefits (money, responsibility, etc). I know one day I’ll eventually have other priorities outside work making 7-11 pm work nights less desirable. Anyone make it to a high level in consulting and downgrade in industry for much better wlb? How did it go for you?

You don’t have to “downgrade” to industry. I left PwC for much more money and a way better work life balance. There is opportunity out there.

DM me your LinkedIn

If you’re going to do that, I highly encourage you to keep your fixed costs small, live small, and don’t get used to the lifestyle ratchet that comes with raises / promotions.

Save your money, keep your options open, limit debt that requires continuing to run at the same pace.

I’ve struck a middle ground, but I like the work and have no plans to change.

Great answer. I've kept my spending relatively flat despite raises, to the point where I'm saving 50% of take-home while still living the life I want to live. Feels great knowing I could afford a pay cut if I really wanted to leave

I transitioned to Slalom to get away from offshore teams

Late hours. Stressful. Not everyone is an A player

Interesting. I didn’t know slalom didn’t utilize offshore teams.

It's true

I've only had 1 late night call at Slalom in 3 years.

I’m really discouraged. My after tax / after 401k contributions etc. take home pay is $6,500 monthly. I have $60,000 in savings / stocks for a down payment but even looking at a $550,000 home, my monthly payment would be about $3,400 from the calculators I’ve been using. Is that too high?

So discouraged that houses where I live are about 50% higher than what they were 2 years ago, and now interest rates are around 5.25% for my credit score. This is like a 1750 sq foot home

401k:

- 20% Vanguard Institutional Total International Stock Market Index Trust

Roth IRA:
- 50% VOO
- 25% VUG

Hey Fishes,
Been working at D India as a Manager (Not USI) for past few months.
Ask me anything as there are very few reviews available online.
To clear few misconceptions
1. Global projects are available here
2. They've started mentioning Bonus, Gratuity amount etc in offer letter
3. Work life balance depends on Project and managers you work with
4. Inside opportunities if you're the creamy layer
5. PF amount in offer letter is the total deduction and not just company's contri

Starting my counseling career on Tuesday and I’m scared to fail. What if I say something stupid and hurt my clients and make it worse? This is a second career for me so is hard to be older and a novice. I know it’s not about me and that I will truly care so I keep reminding myself of that. Any thoughts from others new to the field or advice from more experienced practitioners?

I'm an in-house counsel at a national company. Our GC is leaving. I’m the only other in-house attorney, and I’ve only been here for 4 months. I like the job. Previously, I was a 6th-year associate.
The CEO asked me to stay and implied a larger role, but doesn't have a clear picture of what that looks like. Asked for my help in redefining. Even unsure as to timing or whether we'll hire another GC. Questions for Fishbowl: (1) benefits or pitfalls? (2) questions or requests you'd have for CEO?

Hi Fishes, I am in the salary negotiation with a startup in Ad-Tech space located in Bangalore. I am in the HR field and the new role is exactly what I am looking for. But the CTC offered is 8LPA which is on the lower end considering average salary of the role and company.

YOE: 3.5
CTC: 5LPA

Please suggest if I should go ahead with the offer.
I have no other offer in hand as of now.
