So here I am practicing my spiel at midnight for yet another important meeting with the bosses tomorrow, so that I can be perceived as an effective story teller. Im constantly wondering if I’m an exception to the norm, where I know that many of my colleagues rarely ever practice presenting in preparation for their meetings. I thought at some point in my career, I will be able to just freely run my mouth, without the constant “ahm”s, but 20 years into it, still hasn’t happened. What about you ?

Background in PR, now in consulting. I can absolutely spot anyone who didn’t invest time in preparation before the presentation to write down & repeat their talking points and practice their inflection. The more important the meeting, the more I practice the talking points until they sound natural.

Ummms are not always a cardinal sin as long as it’s not the first sound out of your mouth and it’s not every other sound. Are you umming every couple of words?

To me, the real test of presenting is being able to speak in complete thoughts/sentences. I’ll tolerate a lot of other tics if the speaker can actually finish one thought before pivoting to another one.

Taking an improv class at your local theater company is a good way to help you learn to think on your feet, not use filler sounds, and communicate in complete thoughts.

Working for a senior who is beyond horrible. She talks to you like you’re stupid and makes it sound like you’re absolutely terrible at what you’re doing. She’s made 5 other associates cry during her 5 year career. Got someone fired and made another person quit. It’s known around the office that she can no longer have a female associate, because she talks down to females more than she does males. Is it too late in our lives to jump into a mortgage?

So my fiancée and I are relatively late in terms of finally landing well paying jobs and being able to save money instead of living paycheck to paycheck. We’re both 36 and currently rent a 2 bedroom in NY and have a combined savings of $35,000 which she wants to use as a down payment on a condo. I kinda just wanna continue saving while renting. I also literally just started contributing to my 401K so I’m also late in the game for that too.

I'm ambivalent about: Zapify (the thing that imports resumes from other places into your ats - so clunky compared to a manual upload)
SmartCRM - still new but it seems like an afterthought to SmartRecruit
