In the US, companies typically do not have official or binding notice periods. Most people notify their companies two weeks in advance out of courtesy and not an actual requirement.
Are you in US? There’s no official notice period in US offices, just a gentleman handshake of a two week notice before your last day. Having said that, you can just tell them that today is your last day and that should be fine.
Again, the above is for US only, may be different rules in other countries.
If you have no intention or desire to return to your employer, or work with your manager again in the future, you can just quit. 2 weeks notice is a nice thing to do, there is no legal requirement unless you have one written into your employment contract
If you’re US based, you’re likely on an at will contract which allows you to walk out or be let go instantly.
I would simply tell your prospective employer that you need to confirm what the notice period and ask for flexibility with the start date - then approach HR for a confidential conversation and explain your situation: you have a job offer in hand and want to make sure you are able to depart on good terms with your current employer and want to understand what terms of departure may be in place. Be ready to walk out of that conversation straight to your manager to handle the resignation.
Not sure why raising suspicion is your concern if you are leaving. At this point it’s just you being considerate.
