Say you have 140k Marriott. That's two nights at a hotel that could cost $700 a night or more, which puts your value at 1.0 cents/point, for a grand total of $1.4k. You'd get (140k/3)+(140k/20k)*5 = ~47k+35k= ~82k points total. Don't know much about Skymiles redemptions, but I've seen European routes go for as low as 60K r/t + ~$150. If the average international flight to there is $1,000, then you're getting ~$850 for your 60k, which, prorated for 82k points, gets you a little over $1,150. Keep it mind, it's harder to spend leftover airline miles (unless you're trying to get a magazine subscription).
So long story short, they pretty much come out to be close in value and just depends what you want more: fancy hotel nights or free flights?
Yep. I take hotel over flights personally, but no bad answer
Well since Im staying with Hyatt and flying Delta now I may still make the transfer. Thanks for the breakdown that was helpful. I have 200k Delta miles too so no need to worry about the leftover miles
Keep in mind that I'm using the high end of point valuations that I've noticed, so this is anecdotal
Thanks for the breakdown!
