any telltale signs of layoffs in tiger?
Thought this was interesting. Across 160 teams of researchers, just about all failed to make good life outcome predictions on things like GPA, evictions, layoffs, and others. Data followed 4.5k families across 15 years, with 13k features (varied over time). Haven't looked at it directly yet, but will be turning the docs and data inside out... In the meantime, authors claim this as showing the limits of ML. Oh, and it's published in PNAS, so you know there's some big publication energy there.

Companies are still hiring like crazy. Got 3 legit inbounds for $250k+ roles since Monday. Totally unconcerned tbh

Staying busy at work, improving visibility of the work you’re doing and creating value higher than normal. You don’t want to be the first out of the door when it happens.

We just had a “Black Monday” yesterday…. Announced some layoffs. I am telling my team to only “worry about what you can control” and keep your activity high.

Unemployment is 3.6% and the last jobs report shows hiring is red hot.
The data is so clear that any stories of layoffs are either anecdotal or confirmation bias
Thinking mostly 6 to 9 months from now. Mostly due to fed actions.

Corporate earnings are at an all-time high and hiring is red hot. Consumers have so much money that inflation is exploding

Deloitte was just badly burned by laying people off in Covid and having to rehire them all.
I don’t think we’ll be nearly as reactive next time.
