I have been interviewed and selected for a role in EY UK. The status of my job application is “congratulations on receiving an offer from EY”.
However I have not received any email yet.
Can someone confirm which team sends the final offer coz the HR is saying that he has processed everything from his side.??EY
Is MBB hiring right now ?

How else are they to evaluate how hard you work/how good your results are under pressure? Genuine question - am always amazed that people are surprised that firms will want grades…
Grades are completely meaningless when the best schools curve up
Grades are the single easiest and most accurate predictor of ability and effort that can be used to weed out candidates. It shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that they are still requested for lateral candidates.
Writing samples - who knows who wrote/revised anything? People who claim they are qualified even with poor grades? Guess what there are other equally or better qualified candidates which good grades. The fact that you people are still surprised by a firm requesting transcripts literally make the case that low grades are good screening mechanism.

Partners involved with HR policies are insufferable and this is the result

People will complain endlessly about this, but I'm not sure what they expect. There is this dumb and totally untrue notion that somehow no matter what your law school grades were, we are all equal after a certain number of years out of law school or even right out of law school. It's true that grades aren't everything, but all things equal they are a pretty darn good indicator of hard work and ability to learn new stuff under pressure. And no, I'm not going to look at trial outcomes to determine if you are a good lawyer, no serious lawyer does that.

Yes but they do already ask you for your experience so presumably if they are worth anything, they will be looking at grades along with everything else and won't just assume all things are equal for every resume they look at. It's tough to get someone's work ethic just from their employment history and type of experience when they have been in the industry for 8 years max. A substantial and recent writing sample for lit type people is a good way, a good substantive interview is another way, but there is no single thing that gives you the answer. So of course people are going to ask for grades, because they are relevant and they help. I see the apprehension that the grades become a shorthand and people ignore everything else merely because the grade is asked for or included, but in my experience that's just not the case.

Some do it for education verification.

Yeah. They could probably do that with a diploma.
I had a terrible first semester due to a mistake but completely turned it around and graduated with median GPA (a huge undertaking given how terrible I did first semester). I’m a 6th year, routinely bill 2500 (not something I would like to do 😂 but I would like to get paid more if I am doing it) and I have been considered by a few big law firms based on my resume but then am never interviewed after I have to send my transcript. VERY annoying bc I never even get the opportunity to explain myself. So I feel you and while I see that they “can” be an indicator, I really don’t think grades are always an indicator of hard work and work ethic. The system is flawed.

I had an atrocious first year, and firms don’t seem to care anymore. I think this has more to do with your school than grades.
Okay, so slightly different perspective. I actually look at the transcript for what school you attended and what classes you took. It can show if your interests have changed a lot.
HR policies i think they have to request them at some firms.
Just one more data point to use when making a very expensive and important decision.
