Step 1. Take the job.
Step 2. Interview.
Step 3. See what happens.
Congrats on the job!
You find a way to take a few hours in the day off to give time for an interview and you go
Do both. Take the job. Take the interview. If dream agency offers a job, the good people at very good agency will be happy for you.
Yeah. What AD1 said. You don’t want to spend the next few years wondering what could have been. Who knows if you’d even get an offer...but you owe it to yourself to at least explore the dream job.
I’m not going to be popular in my response, but if the dream agency offer is two weeks away, don’t accept the good agency job and leave after two weeks. It’s poor form. Tell the dream agency you’ve been offered a position and explain they are your dream job and you’d like to explore with them. Ask them how long they expect the process to be. Then tell good agency that you are in the middle of interviewing for a position in parallel, and would appreciate being able to complete that process before arriving at a decision. Tell them you are leaning towards them. But you feel you owe it to yourself to finish the process to be sure. If it’s only one or two weeks - I’m sure they’ll understand and appreciate your honesty.
All I can say is that integrity goes both ways and what goes around, comes around. Use your best judgement, and good luck!
Never turn down an interview!!
*fishbowl connection made*
I did the same thing. Took the job said I had a appointment already planned before I started and went in for the interview. At the end of the day, you have to so what's best for you as each company will do for them. You could tell Company B that you have another offer to see if they move fast that's all they need to know but they might not be able to.
Maybe I’m misreading, and I’m curious because I’ve recently been in this situation..but why is asking for more time to make a decision with “good agency” while interviewing with “dream agency” a bad thing as SVP1 said? As opposed to taking the job and still interviewing, then quitting if you get an offer from “dream agency” as others are saying?
Appreciate the breakdown. Thanks!
