Why haven't you gotten a pay check yet? That seems weird.
Tell them the check is to small
direct deposit is your friend. waiting for weeks for checks in the mail is not reliable.
I am most definitely set up for that moving forward.
For some reason, the policy is that all first checks MUST be mailed.
Ugh, so glad this is over. Can’t wait for the stress from this to fade.
Well you need to get that not being paid thing fixed pronto. And I think telling your coworkers that you haven't been paid by your common employer is a good way to get off the hook for gifts as well as to shame the employer into getting you your money. That does not seem legal.
Hey Lit Legal.... sorry you're going through this but you will find a lot of employers that will have these payroll errors or might even force you into a non-paid status while generously allowing you to keep your job. I met this woman (really did) where here employer lied and she got forced into an unpaid status, but was told she was still employed by the company. Those A holes forced her to retire so she could still just maybe eat. So there are people out there going through the same or worse than you. Please tell me you've addressed this with payroll because they would have HR in the crack of your a**,if you stopped doing your job.
For the hunger part, I’d encourage you to go to a food bank until you get paid.
I guess I keep thinking, in error, “it can’t go on like this. I’ll get the check today and my nightmare will be over.”
I have never been in such a conflict of fortunes where I am personally flat broke while being employed full-time at a company that does 10B revenue annually.
That is to say I’d be looking for a food pantry in one of the wealthiest commercial areas of the country - the business lobbies all hold donation drives to help the poor, but they don’t directly distribute those goods, because like, “the poor don’t actually work here, right?”
They do serve hot meals downtown at the church and, um, I might actually do that today.
Steal the coffee fund
Please email HR immediately and firmly ask when you can discuss the the fact that you have yet to be paid for your month here. Be sure to inform them that you cannot go on like this and require an immediate solution.
Pretty f-ed up that we work for people who make multiple six figures and firms that earn millions or billions and they are barely willing to pay us anything , or delay our paycheck for a whole month.
Tell your coworkers that as much as you would like to chip in, you just can’t because you have been waiting a month to get paid.
I know when I started a job, I had to wait 3 weeks to get paid because they held back a week.
I had to wait for the next pay period.
I would also go to a church in my area or food bank for help.
Ummm, why didn’t you just ask when you get paid?? I don’t think I’ve ever started a job and not know how much and when I’m getting paid. You have to ask for budgeting reasons. Some places pay monthly or fortnightly, and if you’re used to being paid weekly, it’s a big change in your budgeting strategy. I can’t believe you waited nearly a month to say something. In AUS, we only get paid by direct bank transfer. No cash (unless you’re being paid off the books) or even cheques anymore, which makes it easier for us, and most of that stuff with our pays and things are all manageable by the employee as well as the employer. But even if the company doesn’t have that, most people ask what day of the week, fortnight or month you are paid on.
I think it’s cringe you started a job without even knowing when you get paid and then, waited three weeks to say something and get it sorted. The only one to blame for your being hungry, at least for a couple of those weeks, is you. Put on your big boy pants, grow a pair and take responsibility for yourself. ASK!!!
