I’m confused. I’d be happy if the juniors I’ve supervised took the initiative to put together a brief template that helped clarify things for them. Sounds kind of ridiculous even if they didn’t like the template.
Also, I’m frequently accused of being low energy. The false positivity forced on people in this industry makes me sick, and I can’t fake it - especially in the depths of depression. If you’re producing good work and aren’t a total drag to be around, your agency needs to chill in my opinion.
It’s okay to just write yourself your own brief. Have done many times. Just expanding on the brief for myself with my own research and asking questions. People are people, so asking them to do it your way could be interpreted as aggressive. But the “low energy” thing is BS. I have gotten that in the past. I don’t get high energy about anything, especially not work. I don’t think anyone would be happy with high-energy me. Being calm and measured should be a good thing, imo.
I don’t get the resistance to good briefs! I just had a similar battle in my agency (also small), where accounts took our request for a structured brief as a personal insult. It’s a no-brainer… The clearer the briefs, so better our chances of getting the creative right.
OP, you’re doing everything right and will be a real asset to the creatives on your team.
