Lots of people ask this and I answer it the same each time, FDD isn’t a career, it’s a stepping stone. If you do it longer than 5 years you’re doing it wrong. Given that, the goal is the best exit possible. I wouldn’t bother doing FDD outside of big4 (A&M on par but won’t hire till 2+ years big4). It’s a miserable existence and you have to do it for a reason, why bother at LMM
My advice, as someone who worked FDD and adjacent roles for about 5 years, have a plan. I wanted M&A exposure, found out I hated it (very repetitive) and I wanted to solve unique problems, worked my way into “value creation” where I reside today at a boutique (5 years at big4). I enjoy it, this AI era is the Wild West lol. You have to start with a why though because the work truly sucks
We’re definitely hiring if you have interest.
What city?
It’s a timing thing unfortunately. Have you been frequently checking for openings?
Yeah, I’ve been browsing for a few months. I’ve gotten in contact with connections at different firms to let me know if they hear that they’re looking to hire but no dice so far

look out for rotational opps. that’s what i did last summer and started full time FDD this past fall. from audit
Join the small shop. The work is the same no matter where you go and maybe at these small shops you’re less likely to get burnt out.
Also the pay is seeming iffy. A lot of these firms end up telling me a number that’s less than what I make in audit.
Not gonna sacrifice pay and perks of a big firm just to work in something that interests me a bit more tbh.
Might just keep working on landing a MM firm or better.
What does LMM stand for, large to middle market?
Opposite small to mid, lower mid market
