Associate is the post MBA role, correct? So you are coming in at A2 level essentially and next step will be EM. I have never seen anyone at McK with Senior Associate title so the contract is probably not a mistake. What are the details and what were you expecting?
Senior associate title is used for those that are more senior than associate but junior than EM. It’s usually preserved for external hires
If they’re going to hire you as a senior associate, make sure you get that in writing, so I definitely think you’ll want to have them formally update the offer letter to reflect that at the very least.
If you have other offers that are higher, I do think you should negotiate. You don’t lose anything by trying.

What are the deets, OP?
Geez OP. Not sure what you want from us then, this is why FB exists.
McK. HR isn’t somehow tracking your or 100s of conversation thta potential hires are getting lol.
We’ll I mean: in general, is it even worthwhile to try negotiate an offer from McKinsey? My previous consulting employer had very standardised salary levels that couldn’t be negotiated

Omg if you’re not going to share the offer then nobody can help you. Otherwise it’s just an arbitrary discussion around why you think you got played.
What’s the offer and region?

I too was hoodwinked by low offer from Mck
Sorry, I’m feeling hesitant to share either numbers or place with risk of violating some kind of policy Im not yet aware of. I have offers with other consulting firms to join at higher level and considerably higher salary. Is the brand worth it? And again: can I negotiate?
The brand? There is literally a post above this one about the the firm being charged in another scandal.
To answer your main question: yes this is negotiable. I was in your shoes a few months ago (different level though), and negotiated to a better offer thanks to a competing MBB offer
Senior associate implies it should take 12-18 months to hit EM rather than a full 24. Aren’t salaries standardized by cohort? If so, not sure why the offer is surprising to you.
Is the brand worth it? Depends on goals. What do you want to do longer term?
This is a very good answer in a sense! Yes, the hiring partner implied that I could “probably” expect EM in 6 months (although, yes, it could take 18 months). For everyone: I’ve received several good DMs and answers without providing details, so I’m happy. I’ve also discussed with HR and they say that while Associate salary is standard no matter background, they can compensate by giving a higher sign-on bonus. I’ll have to see if it’s enough
I was told my salary upfront during recruiting as an experienced hire and that it wasn't negotiable. However noone here can help you if you don't share the details. There's literally no way for Mck to find out so your apprehension is somewhat unfounded.
Pretty sure it’s like $120k base
This is lower than big 4
I can mention that I raised this with HR/recruiting and they will bring my competing salary to the compensation committee and likely compensate with a strong sign on bonus covering the first years difference
It doesn’t matter, you can negotiate now and get the money up front but you will hit the cap in the next cycle and you won’t get much of a raise unless you make it to EM. They will catch you one way or another.
