Then go back to consulting. This is what you signed up for by going into industry and why you should always negotiate for a base based on your consulting salary projected at least 3 years out
Why are you surprised? This is pretty standard in industry especially if you’re not in a sales type role or a high-growth industry.
I knew what I was getting myself into switching to industry. Just found it humorous how much of a difference there actually is.
And folks in consulting complain about 5 to 7% raises, get frustrated, and jump to industry expecting the grass to the greener despite everyone saying that's not the case. We get spoiled sometimes and lose perspective.
For additional context, I still don’t regret the move at all, I’m much happier in my role now both in terms of doing more interesting work and less hours.
Pick a different industry or industry firm. Find something up-and-coming and high growth. I've always preferred mid-sized firms as they have the resources to pay well (drawbacks are maybe less glamorous team outings or not a super fancy office) but I don't get crushed by the bureaucracy. I've averaged ~7-10% raises in non-promo years and currently have a 15% bonus target which I think is decent for not consulting
What industry and role?
If you are moving to industry - you need to negotiate a great base salary . You can’t base it on hypothetical bonuses in a new gig
I thought they paid more in industry? At least my managers complain about our client counterpart salaries vs hours they actually work
Base salary may start off more, but growth becomes stagnant
Me too and I got a 15% raise and 10% bonus. Maybe you chose the wrong industry/ role?
