Would be hard to go wrong with the Amex plat offer out there right now. 150k points + $200 statement credit (makes the first year annual fee a little more palatable). Flights + hotels booked on the card would earn 5pts per $ while also going towards the SUB.
I did something similar last fall. Got 125k point SUB and had $6k in travel I was booking. Had 155k points the minute the first statement closed
Nope absolutely no real reason other than personal experience. I’ve had chase and Amex cards but haven’t dipped in to the citi or c1 offerings yet. Ive heard great things. I’d imagine it comes down to whether the additional benefits on each card would be worth enough to justify the cost
Platinum is a great card if you can justify the annual bonus and if the airports you'll be traveling through have a centurion lounge. Otherwise, Gold is definitely the way to go because points are much easier to earn on typical daily life transactions.
90K points + $200 statement credit below if you're interested.

Quick note from someone who grew up in SE Asia: Not all spots will take amex, so be prepared with visa/mc and some cash at hand.
DM if you’re interested in capital one venture x. I can refer and provide detailed info if interested. Essentially, it’s a no fee card with $400 given back to you in statement credits vs. $395 fee plus other great benefits. I chose this over Amex plat because I wasn’t going to use all benefits plat offered to make the fee justifiable.

Very fair point. Book with Amex but travel with something else. That’s a good rule of them for most places internationally
As McK said, not many Asian countries accept Amex. They are cash intense countries and many places don’t accept credit cards so don’t rely on them. Use your Amex to buy flights and all of that but other than that, you need cash in most places or a regular visa, MC credit card.
