Yes, midlife crisis for sure
Correct- you DO NOT want to go back.
First, pretty sure you’ll need an age waiver, so aside from the traditional hoops to jump through when commissioning you’ll have to get that.
Second, do you really want to be a 40 year old in the same OCS class with a bunch of 22-28 year olds? With 30 year olds bossing you around?
Third, will your employer be okay with this? They have to keep you on the payroll when you’re on orders as an existing soldier; I don’t think that’s true if you tell them you need to take 8-12 weeks off to go join the military again.
Fourth, what is your actual goal here? Just to wear a uniform again? Because you’ll be resetting your leadership expectations. An O1 is still an O1, even if you were previously an E7 or whatever.
Don't do it. I commissioned in the Reserve at 41 and took abuse from classmates and cadre at WOCS.
Yes. And I had to take it if I wanted to graduate. I got threatened with peering out.
Rising Star
people with 2 yoe in big tech or finance can make more than O10.
whatever your current pay level is, there is much higher earning potential in leveling up with a promo.
and if money isn't a concern, FIRE'ing would be a better way to go.
If you're following the news, the US is prepping up near Venezuela. IMHO all servicemembers should resign to prevent this insanity.
Money isn't a concern. I could retire now if I really wanted to.
But the reminder if what's going on in places like Venezuela is what I needed. Thanks.
Go ahead and do it, why not? You already have the experience. Just prepared for drill weekends that just so happen to fall on the most inconvenient times.
If you didn’t have any experience whatsoever I’d say hell no.
