Tax associate for 1 1/2 years at a small firm with 129 credits taking the CPA exam currently. Should I finish the exams, be at 150, or both before applying to a Big 4?

I believe at most big 4 firms you need to be CPA eligible as a condition of employment so you’ll need to fulfill the 150 hours before joining. Ideally, you’d knock out the exams before starting as well but that’s not a requirement.

smart

Thanks I guess I’ll hang on a little longer before applying then and maybe look to do it in my 3rd year

If you do an internship you're more likely to have a FT offer prior to finishing the 150... also look into using the internship for credit, I think most colleges offer that. BT has internships and entry staff positions available, hmu if you'd like a referral!

I have an interview for an in house position (only attorney) at a small non-profit focused on conservation easements. I am a transactional associate at a mid sized law firm. The prospect of freedom from the billable hour and contributing to meaningful work are the draws. The cons are that while the salary at the non-profit would only be slightly less than what I am making now, pay increases and opportunities for advancement will be much less than where I am now. Thoughts on making the shift?
