Tax manager finishing a 90 hour work week. What are some stress free jobs for a CPA. I need out of public accounting.

I’m in Deloitte human capital and want to eventually (but sooner rather than later) move to industry doing internal talent/people stuff. My coach recommended getting SPHR or equivalent. Thoughts?

Here is my idea for a startup! I collect all the data from career transitions and use Data Analytics to predict the most likely career transitions. I could start with consulting. What do you guys think about this? I would be able to predict based on your firm(mbb, big4), your experience, which role you are likely to move (Faang pm, strategy manager, move to mbb). I have all the data to do this, but wanted your thoughts. Would the output of this be relevant to you?

I work as a Solution Specialist (sales rep) at an Authorizer Verizon retailer. Phone/wireless sales is not something I want to do forever. I have 4 years mobile sales experience and 3 additional years of niche sales/ customer service experience. I’m feeling stuck and every career/job move fells it is a step backwards. Does anybody have any advice on how to power through this or what other routs I could go?

Recently left the Big4 without a job lined up. I’m hearing all my friends talking about busy season woes and I’m so grateful to not be in that position. I keep thinking of the long hours and it’s making me not want to job hunt. I’ve been looking at industry related tax roles, and generally like accounting but am open to exploration. Is there any such role that gives good comp, great work/life balance (I don’t even wanna be near 60 hours), and overall interesting role/company?

Recently obtained my aPHR and I’m considering next steps in advancing my career. I am eligible to sit for the SHRM-CP presently and will not be able to sit for a PHR until 09/2023. Any pros/cons with either certification? Should I wait to sit for PHR or go for SHRM-CP now?

Has anyone gone from a complex litigation practice like Construction and/or Government Contracts to a more general civil lit practice (PI, family, etc.)? I'm highly debating making the switch as I feel like these massive complex construction cases aren't really getting me enough solid litigation experience. Losing motivation and drive as time goes on , and I’m only 27 . Nothing I’m passionate about and money just seems like it’s ever enough ($160k total comp) . I was lucky enough to be making that much at McK while solving social problems within education , Econ dev , and public health

However , social good isn’t pleasing my soul neither is the income . I’ve switched jobs to healthcare where I’m impacting people’s physical and mental health . Still no passion / drive

I am contemplating a move to industry working at a VC, Tax Director role east coast. Looks like it will be primarily overseeing compliance with some aspect of advising on structures etc. There is another tax reporting head above me.

The potential comp is the low 200k with a 10% bonus (still higher than what I am making). I feel this is pretty low for VC standards but maybe my standards are also too high. I have generally seen 25% bonus with carry.

Any thoughts?

If you make it to senior manager at big four can you leave and become partner or director at mid size firm? Is this hard to do? I know there is a lot of politics at big four and have no interest staying in a senior manager role for 6-8 years and risk a chance of still not becoming partner. Also I got a long way to go before senior manager fyi.

UPDATE (RE: SoCal Assistant Controller Interview)

So after two weeks of waiting (and giving up on the idea of getting the job really), the recruiter got back to me.

They said due to month-end and quarter-end close they were busy and couldn’t get back to me as quickly for a “good update”.

The recruiter said the CFO enjoyed our call, she, the CFO, will call me next week directly to “discuss some final things”.

Not sure if Im hired or not, but are there any questions about the job, comp (cont.)

Expecting an offer this week or early next week, but want to know when you start negotiating the salary? When you receive the call from the company or wait until receiving the formal offer letter? And how should the negotiation start? Through phone calls or emails? Didn’t use recruiter for this position, so I don’t know what is the process here.
