Me!
I went from audit to analytics consulting to data science. Moved after 4 years in audit. I did a lot of upskilling in that time learning python, sql, data viz, etc and jumped when the market was hot. I am now a few classes deep in GT’s OMSA program. HIGHLY recommend.
SQL, python, and power BI are great tools to learn but there is far more to DS than that. Just being good with those tools is more of a data analyst role not data science. Data science is math and statistics intensive where data analyst roles are more about half knowing business and half knowing information systems.
Feel free to ask specific questions here though

IMO, skip the CPA. Useless outside of accounting and that is valuable time you can spend doing prereqs for the masters.
What I ended up doing was interviewing at a small boutique for analytics consulting, and I ended up getting an offer last summer. Took that offer to deloitte and they agreed to transfer me.
I had several things going for me though that made this possible.
1. I had a VERY strong network at D. I was a very strong performer, and my name was known around the office for being the “data guy”. I would leave core audit work periodically and help teams implement analytics in their risk assessments as a S1.
2. Market was very very hot last summer. Consulting could not hire fast enough. I had the skills to be deployable on day 1 (sql/python/r/tableau)
3. I had a lot of leverage on my client in audit. It was partner rotation year, new partner was a senior partner at the firm. The SM quit, and the same week both managers went out on maternity. All of the sudden as an S2 I was the only person with any experience on the client. So when I got the offer at the boutique and told them I was putting in my notice, I was pretty easily able to strike a deal to stay for busy season (it was november at the time, so meant 3 more months in audit).
All of those things combined made it pretty easy to arrange an interview with D consulting, passed the case interview, and I was in.

How would you get into data analytics at B4?
Get masters apply for Big 4 Data analytics since I’ve got acctg/audit senior background. But I’ll most likely be acctg mgr by the time I pass masters
