I’m not bad with money but definitely lots of room to improve overall, due to several personal factors I don’t want to list in full here (numerous unanticipated medical bills, bad boyfriends, etc.) Hence why I only have $3k in savings right now. I have a yearly income of 130k and will rent a 1Br/Studio in Manhattan from 2.4-3k by end of the year. I also have student loans of 28.5k which I intend to pay off in an year or so. I have two questions. I have 10 years of experience in multiple sectors and I have been trying to gain a leadership position. How does one go about a resignation mid-leave when you would start the new job before the leave ends? Two weeks notice or just say I am not returning effective the day of the new job? So I’m only contributing to 401k enough to get employer match, and I’m saving an additional ~20% and putting 90% of that into my vanguard mutual funds. Reasoning is that I don’t want to lock away all that money maxing out 401k. Have 3 months expenses liquid in a savings account. Is this really dumb? I followed up by asking what he thought the top consulting firms were. "I'd guess PwC and then McKinsey are the best. I've also heard of KPMG, Deloitte, and Bain, but I don't know much about them."

Just a reminder that outside our bubble no-one really cares about firm prestige etc.
