I live OTP in Atlanta and it only takes me 30 min to get to work. Just don’t live North and/or work in Buckhead and you’re fine. Lots of agencies in cooler parts of town (west side and east side) with shorter commute times.
Coming from NY you can get probably get a literal palace for what you pay in rent.
Atlanta is expensive as it’s still a city, but you get more bang for your buck. Property taxes are much lower here as well. ITP = inside the perimeter which is probably where you will work. Definitely use proximity as a factor in where you live and either check good maps during commute times and/or live near MARTA. The cheaper the real estate, the crazier the commute.
buckhead, midtown, west midtown, and there are boutique agencies all over the city! Buckhead is a pain, but it does have marta so that’s a plus!
And to be honest the commute isn’t terrible but driving for 45 min to go 5 miles feels a lot different than sitting on a subway for 45 minutes!
Stay away from Buckhead. Unless you like sports bars, the Kardashians, Jake Paul, and meat market clubs.
Midtown, East Atlanta, Decatur, In and around Georgia Tech, VA Highlands, Little 5 Points, are some good areas but you will likely pay more to live there.
Agree with with McCann 1, inside the perimeter is definitely the way to go if you want a combination of city life while still having a bigger space than in nyc!
@mccann thanks! Are most of the agencies in Buckhead or are they all over the city?
Sounds like LA
Have you considered commuting form outside the 5 boroughs? There are somewhat affordable family-friendly places with a decent commute. Like Stamford. And you can actually relax and work on that 45 minute train versus the subway (or traffic in Atlanta). That way you don’t have to reset your network.
@gcd1 it’s a definite thought, that’s true. I’m from the south so have thought about being closer to family but maybe it’s worth investigating
