RIP your DMs
Let’s hope I have the vocabulary to keep up 😂

I wouldn't recommend an amex for your first card. I would recommend you get a chase card because they have something called 5/24 where you can only open 5 of ANY card (amex, chase, mastercard, etc) within 24 months, so I'd recommend your first few cards to be all the chase cards then move onto the other providers
It's a super deep rabbit hole of credit cards, so dm me if you have any questions. Been deep into this game for a long time haha
Amex was my first credit card and I got Amex gold. I love it because of the travel benefits and overall benefits on purchases. It's still my top card to use.

Credit cards are just for building a 'credit score' to assist your future mortgage application. Anything beyond that is just for a rewards system. Doesn't make someone a "big" person at all.

Nerdwallet.com has super easily digestible summaries of credit cards.
My only piece of advice is to get a second card if you’re starting with Amex. It’s not as widely accepted as visa and Mastercard.
Chase Sapphire might be a good starting point bc it’s metal and you’ll feel like a super fancy grown up!
Chase sapphire preferred if you don’t want a big annual fee, or reserve if you travel and can use the benefits. It’s 550? a year but you get $350 back as travel credit for flights, Ubers, etc

Thank you!!
I'd recommend you take the term "big girl" out of your vocabulary.

OP, I’m with you - totally okay to show your limited knowledge in a topic :))))
If you are looking for a travel card with similar perks to the amex but better for beginners (IMO) check out capital one venture X. After a ton of research I went with that over the amex since the incentives are much easier to use to get your "money's worth" after the yearly fee.
One of my friends just told me about that one, she said the Amex is overhyped and it’s all about “status” — whatever that means.
Since that’s the 2nd rec, I’ll definitely look into it . Thank you!! ☺️
I have the AMEX gold! Agreed it should not be the first card. I use it before I travel to see my family quite often and the checked bag is free. Also extra points on groceries.
Predominantly I use the chase sapphire reserve and the freedom unlimited though
