I do a series of meditations that I’ve created for my needs. I start with 10 min just seated meditation. Then I do mantra for 15 min. Then i do a short visualization for 10 minutes and I’m done. I got into meditation when I was experiencing infertility and read about these meditation exercises through that lens but have since tailored them to other needs.
I can meditate up to 35 min. But it’s stamina you build to. Start with 5-10 and try to increase the time. I focus on my breathing. Take a deep breath in (slowly counting to 4), hold it, and slowly breathe out (slowly counting to 4). All you need is a focus point (I.e your nose, sound of birds chirping, breathing, imagining a flame, etc.)
I do the same, 30 minutes concentration/observation of breathing
Headspace has an unguided meditation feature that I like to use. It provides minimal structure but does give me a time frame, which I am free to determine. I’m currently trying to get into the habit of meditating every day and I’m starting out with 5 min daily. Then I’ll up to 10 min… and so on.
It totally makes sense! I tried using headspace, it did not help me a lot. I usually do it for 5-15 mins/ day. I put on some light instrumental music in the background and that helps me.
I just started meditating about a month ago. I do 10 minutes a day and use the bells on the Insight Timer app. I’m starting to explore the UCLA Mindful app with guided meditations. Do you all find that your mind wanders a lot during meditation?
That’s solid advice. Thanks!
I use the app “Balance”. I like it because of its focus on mindfulness meditation. Also adjusts to what you answer
This will be a naive question because I don’t know much about meditation, but hoping this group can help. Is the point of meditation to basically not think? Or are you focusing on one thought/ line of thinking for that period of time (I.e. meditating on a topic)?
