When one leaves the firm, what happens to the accrued pension? Nowhere near retirement age yet. Pension fully vested.
Can someone explain the benefits of investing in real estate over the stock market? Would deploy 100k of bonus. Real estate appreciates slower imo and requires a much much bigger headache. I’m curious on the taxes (d+a) of it vs my personal income
I have an iPhone 7. Should I update to iOS 11? What are the benefits over iOS 10? Nervous about battery life crashing if I upgrade.
Is it a bad idea to cash out your 401K to pay off student loans? Only 25 so I feel like the money will come back but this damn student debt isn’t going anywhere soon.
401k rollover question — has anyone rolled over their 401k to their Roth IRA instead of a traditional IRA. or new company 401k? Can you explain your strategy here?
28 years old and currently a 4th year in big law
- 79k in loans (3.25% rate with First Republic)
- 50k liquid (HYSA)
- 140k investments (includes 401k, HSA and brokerage account)
Should I nuke my loans, continue saving by growing my nest egg and investments or a hybrid of both.
FWIW, been living with parents for about 3 months due to Covid so rent isn’t a factor (extra 2.5k disposable/month which I’ve been using to boost my savings).

Where should I be saving my money for a down payment? 23 years old right now saving ~30K a year (can’t really save more I live a frugal lifestyle). When I say where i mean what investment vehicle. Right now I’m taking full advantage of tax accounts but should I be putting it in other accounts knowing I will need it in 6-7 years for a down payment ? Rn I do 19.5 in 401k, 6k In Roth IRA, 3 in crypto (and then my match gets me to about 30k).

Does it make sense to up 401K contributions now? For context, I just had a salary bump to $92,500 and have been working for under a year. Currently contributing 10%.
Hi all! New investor here, and starting full time this summer (advisory, 75k). No student loans. Trying to figure out the tax savings accounts to open. Here's what I've gathered to open (in order):
1. Roth 401k and max out ONLY to what the company is willing to match (Free $)
2. HSA (via a high deductible insurance plan plus max out the HSA since I can consider it a secondary retirement account to invest in it)
3. Roth IRA (max this out too and invest)
Any comments/feedbacks/tips appreciated!
I have around $8000 in my HSA account sitting in cash🤦♂️ Will appreciate any recommendation from the group. For context I’m 39 and have a family with one kid. Medical costs are minimum in the family so, don’t really need this cash near-term. Investing in target fund is an option but, my 401k and IRAs are also invested there so, wondering if I need to diversify any?
Is there such a thing as going client-side too quick? Overall benefits seem way better but worried it might stunt my growth (i.e. less responsibilities, more menial tasks)
First gen grad working in Corp America so had to learn stuff like investing from scratch. I deposited funds in my IRA and invested those in some stocks. This was early in my learning journey. I've since learned about Roth IRAs and their tax benefits and would love to convert but I own some stocks that I bought relatively cheap and would hate to sell. Any way for me to convert to Roth while holding my stocks?
For those of you looking for new jobs United is offering $15k signing bonuses at Logan (and you get flight benefits too)
Moving to a different firm. Have a 401k loan on my current firm’s retirement account. Do I have to pay it back within 90 days of changing firms or can I roll the loan over with my account?
I've decided to head back to NYC, where I first trained, to join in the effort against Covid-19. Wish me luck!
