Those with auditory processing disorder/delayed processing - Any advice on responding to on the spot client questions when "I'll get back to you" doesn't work? I'm trying to improve my responses for these types of questions. I'm not the "excessive talking" type of ADHD and usually fall silent when I don't think I have a good answer.

I try to practice responses aloud to myself prior to calls of reasonable feedback or questions clients might make. It's not always perfect but just the attempt often helps raise confidence! Good luck!

I have a notetaking system whetr for each meeting, I have a Preparation, During, and Followup section. I fill out the Preparation section before the meeting with sections for anything I think might come up, including full wording of potential responses.

The organization also helps me grab information on the fly, since each entry has a date stamp and topic tags.

I do the same thing as Deloitte 1, I practice responses out loud so I have some idea of what I am going to say or what I can quick in a pinch.

like

"Let me see if I'm understanding your question correctly..." Then paraphrase the question asked. Then ask a filtering question. It buys me time to formulate a response.

For example

Let me see if I'm understanding your question correctly. You are basically looking for strategies to implement where you know part of the answer, you just need time for your mind to formulate a response and don't want a weird lull to the conversation or to come off as dumb. Is this in front of internal or external clients?

Thanks, this is great! External clients. With internal, I don't have asked much of a mental block.

Do you guys have examples of this responses?

OP - let me know if you’ve tried anything that has helped!

So… 3.5 year relationship came crashing in Jan due to covid depression, work burn out, lockdown etc. We have stayed in contact and recently he has come around to apologizing and considering getting back together. However he also revealed he started seeing someone casually 4 weeks ago and technically is cheating on her by meeting me for coffee and to discuss this. I’m upset that he’s dating others but shouldn’t be right? I mean, I did the same. Still hurts though. And I told him to sort that out

Anyone have situational depression? Can’t stop beating myself up over a decision a year ago. Basically missed out on a massive amount of money. I know this seems trite and i never even cared thatt much about money before this year.

So many other good things happened to me this year - got married, got a puppy, moved etc, and yet the one thing i keep returning to is this decision as though i ruined my life. Ironically the only thing ruining my life is my outlook and yet i just can’t stop.

I'm a US citizen living abroad I applied almost 11 months ago for my spouse. Married for years, kid. I wait and wait. It seems this will take 2 years, maybe more. I feel trapped. On one side the US system demands I work and domicile in US, the other side says families should be prioritized to stay together. My spouse has had enough of the process. I feel trapped abroad and locked in a dysfunctional system. We're just in limbo, it's depressing

I recently got diagnosed with ADHD. I'm 31 and found this only because b school and post mba consulting job was/is much more challenging than anything I did before. What I'm confused about is that even as a teenager I could read entire books overnight. But the last two years of high school I started selectively zoning out and the problem has become worse since. I just realised it now. My doctor has suggested treating depression (I was also unaware of this) with Wellbutrin first (contd)

My psychiatrist today revealed to me that I may have ADHD, still a hypothesis that he is still exploring but from my personal experiences and discussions with therapist, it seems likely.

One example of personal experience is my ongoing prep for case studies as I'm interviewing with a number of firms. I do struggle to keep focus and generally take a bit longer to finish them, specifically the structuring of the case. Does anybody else feel the same way and any recommendations to overcome this?

Here is my dilemma: I was passed up for manager promo last year and rightfully so a lot of my feedback was definitely correlated to me not properly handing my symptoms causing a good bit of inconsistencies in my performance especially if I lacked interest.
