I would only advise going down a title/pay cut if it’s for quality of life purposes; as in, you don’t want to advance any further and are comfortable with your responsibilities as they are (or reducing)
If you’re finding you’re being offered only lower titles/positions, you may need to work on some skills to up your perceived value for that title. Or you could be underselling yourself on your skill set and might need to reflect on how you’re communicating your talents.
If it’s because you need money now and can’t wait, then I would consider it. If there’s no way to hold out for a more appropriate level/pay scale - it’s not worth getting behind on bills or put out into the streets.
I've been told to never go down a title. Obviously there are exceptions but that's what I hear.
Interested to hear others' thoughts on that rule.
I wouldn’t personally take that
Is there any opportunity to move up quickly? How much of a salary dip is it?
If you can afford it, do it but I did it and it left me a little bitter the whole time to be honest.if you're not that person, don't worry and work your way up, that said I have people on my team carrying that same chip on their shoulder. Maybe think laterally outside agency and work your way back in- do work you think you're right for.
8 months total experience in planning?
I would do something on the side while you look (slang coffee?) you will have to explain that mice for a long time and it will be demoralizing for you. Also maybe keep building your experience by doing “ pro bono”work for charities
What market?
If you only have 8 months planning is it really a downgrade?
