Thoughts on exit opportunities for a biglaw tax associates? Specifically wondering if opportunities to go in-house are better for corporate vs. tax associates. I’m currently a biglaw corporate associate and have been talking with our tax group about becoming a tax associate next year. I’d really like to leave biglaw within the next few years but don’t know if staying in corporate vs. moving to tax would provide better exit opportunities. Thanks for your thoughts!

Transitioning from com. lit into tax controversy?

I have a tax LLM and started my career out of law school doing M&A tax at a big4. After 9 months, I got out of big4 transactional hell and into whatever litigation I could find. I now practice commercial lit but would welcome the opportunity to eventually transition into tax controversy (which I wasn’t able to do before). Does my commercial litigation “break” hurt my prospect? How long can I stay in com lit without hurting my chances even more?

Has anyone dealt with stuffing allocation in a non-hedge fund context? It seems even in the HF world the law is fuzzy in using aggregate reverse 704c principles in stuffing allocations. Like, sure, the market is there but no authority really blessed it (other than some Cravath partner’s article in Tax Notes in 2013). If we are talking asset class that isn’t really like marketable securities but might be able to treat it similarly solely by virtue of, say, valuation on a quarterly basis (contd)
