Elon loves to exploit, so of course he wouldn’t want his local government to go for their fair share.
In this specific case, it’s not really clear what the CEO of Tesla has to do with crime, but it’s more the pattern of Elon thinking he always gets a say.
A1, depends on your definition of successful....You could say Trump was "successful" at bucking trends and swaying audiences too (aka great politician qualities)....
I’ve lived in Austin my whole life…it’s already similar to San Francisco with crime, homelessness, income disparity, unaffordable housing, elitism, gentrification.
Pained me to move my family out to the burbs several years ago
Dallas is the same unfortunately. It’s terrible.
Completely agree. Look what happened to CA. Can’t bring those failed policies to Texas
Chief
I am speaking about issues that more so impact quality of living and ultimately result in people and companies choosing to move to or from the state.
People and major companies are leaving California and moving to Texas and those are simply the migration numbers.
Vaccination at this point is more a personal choice than policy. California and Texas are 1 and 2 in deaths from Covid. California in terms of Covid deaths given its population, has performed better in terms of deaths but its lockdowns were much more stringent and Texas vaccination rates were lower. California also felt the economic impacts given its policies.
Vaccinations are widely available in Texas and my facility there in Austin all have mask requirements and while we can’t directly or as easily mandate a vaccine, our vaccination rate is 100% because it makes life more straightforward and our people are reasonable.
There is no bad faith, you aren’t laying out anything I disagree with, what I’m saying is that despite all you outline, companies and people are choosing to move to Texas. SALT changes impact California much more and your article in 2019 likely doesn’t fully reflect that impact. Cost of living is exacerbated in California and its the higher earners that are more likely to relocate which brings a key tax base from California to Texas.
So if I agree with everything policy you lay out about Texas and companies and people are still leaving, what does that say about California?
Also, he’s not very smart. He picks the one City in Texas that most resembles a city in Northern California instead of Dallas or Houston because when know his workers won’t move there and then says it can’t become like a city in Northern California even though he’s hoping to import workers from Northern California?!? Make it make sense.
Mmmm…. You literally started by saying he is not smart
This is awesome. Don’t need another SF

The title is very much clickbait. He didn't say "don't become a copycat liberal city", but rather "don't become a copycat San Francisco" . Pretty significant difference in those statements
It is a Fox link…
Classic rich folk taking advantage of gop mentality
He’s a weird guy.
All for it. Hope it doesn’t

He wants "progressive" laws in place where it helps him (e.g. Credits for EVs, funding for space travel, etc.) but not where it costs him (e.g. Labor protection laws, income taxes to fund local infrastructure and socioeconomic development objectives, etc.).
He just sounds like a selfish dickhead.
Chief
He is right. San Francisco is an example of carrots and no sticks leading to failure. Homelessness issues are a product of drug use and persist because people don’t have incentives or penalties for destructive behavior.
Then on tax you can look to Philadelphia as a cautionary tale and now Seattle. If raising taxes, companies/people will go to lower tax cities if they aren’t receiving value for their taxes. Bellevue outside of Seattle is seeing a shift because Seattle is making itself difficult to work with and not offering value for increased taxes.
Because homelessness and drugs are at the core, these become interconnected.

Elon Musk is a conservative activist
I am more in the center and voted for Biden in the last presidential election. I see where Elon is coming from. Let’s check the facts.
1. Do liberals get to implement any policy they want in SF? Yes. (Even SF mayor is complaining about radical left)
2. Do a lot of people move from SF to Austin? Yes.
3. Are people happy with high taxes and tight regulations? No
4. Is SF a successful city considering that people are leaving bec of high taxes and crime? No.
Long story short: those who migrate from SF to Austin shouldn’t vote for the same type of liberal policies! It’s not fair to their new neighbors! 😊

Unfortunately Austin is beyond help at this point. Wonder what he can actually do lol
Why would you go to Austin if that’s your goal? If you really want to show how low taxes and conservative ideas can work for businesses, go to a very conservative state like Kansas and do your business there. Instead he uses established infrastructure, institutions, education, workforce, etc. but expects to pay the same as places that don’t have as much of that

Musk is leaving SF due to housing prices and hiring workers…but he’s moving operations to a place where qualified workers refuse to move to
Funny to see how employees of the working class think they know better than the greatest genius of mankind in the 21st century !
