Having a 24hr nanny for the baby (1.5yr in age now) is the only way to maintain some sanity. Even then the responsibilities between both working parents are divided and both of us start work close to 10am after having fed, bathed the baby and ourselves and have him ready for the nanny to take over. Similarly, in the evening, the baby is taken care of at 8pm after being fed and depending on the evening office calls, the responsibility is split between the two parents. Aim is to ensure the baby is put to sleep latest by 9-9:30pm so that pending work, calls can be resumed, if any.
Weekends are totally dedicated to spending as much time with him as possible. Due to the pandemic, his social life is limited to the nanny and immediate family members. Thankfully, a lot of good educational e-audio books and brain development, cognitive games for him have helped build his skills.
Hope that helps 🙂
Have a 3 yr old son. Husband was WFO whole time even during lockdown. Noone else at home. Struggling since last 1.5 yrs. Luckily project is good.. no hectic work.. so managing.
Decided not to hire a nanny due to COVID concerns.
So to conclude it's very difficult
The key is Get Help… whether it’s from family members or daycare or nanny … whatever works for you … and not just to take care of the kid but also to outsource the house chores so you get time for the kid … it’s not easy but you have to just plan your life around it…
For me, both me and husband are full hands on parents - he is sometimes a better mom than me …
There is no fixed rule I guess - some days are good and some are bad even if you did your best … dnt feel guilty about it - just give your best and try to raise a kid how you want it…
And also draw a line.. we Indians sometimes forget that - work flexibly and find time for your kid - they grow too fast :)
