To those of you that are CMA certified, did you get anything from it other than a pay raise? I just graduated and think it’d be useful to have but am curious if you actually learn anything

Have you passed all CPA exams? If not do CPA first, then CMA is no harm to get.

No

like

Are you trying to stay in tax?

CMA isn’t necessary. I’m a manager and I do not use cost/management accounting.

like

Might be useful in some cases. Try checking job listings to see if there are any that have the CMA as a preference or requirement. I haven't found too many tbh. The CPA is much more recognized. The cost of the certification and annual fee didn't seem worth it to me. But perhaps having this certification may help you to pivot away from a pure tax role if that's what you desire down the line.

Any tips on the first screening call with recruiters? Should I touch base with them after our interviews?

What kind of exit opportunities are there for tax senior? Looking into getting an MBA. Any thoughts?

Am I understanding utilization rate correctly? It’s chargeable time over total time? Charged 40 hours and had 10 hours non-charge so my utilization is 80%? If so, wouldn’t it benefit me to understate non-charge hours so my utilization is higher since they only really care about chargeable time anyways? Charge 40 hours still but only put 5 hours non-charge for utilization to be 89% instead of 80%? Or am I misunderstanding how utilization works?
