Well, it's smart not to get too hype about it before it happens. I hope for the company's sake, though, that it's something worth bragging about, because why else would they be talking it up so much? Ours never really does anything, sometimes a better employee discount, but even that's rare.

My company has cut a lot of incentives in the past years as well. We used to get a big bonus if we are referring people to my company but now it is almost nothing.
We all get bonuses at the end of the year. I don't know how the math is calculated, but they're never life changing amounts. I got $400 last year. Definitely nice, but not enough to get ahead on rent or anything.

$400 is nothing these days. I mean you are working for full year just to get small portion as incentive is not discouraging. I have worked with some retail stores in the past where I would get $0 as a year end bonus.
Every full-time employee gets two hundred, and part-time employees get one hundred from Christmas, and every year they share the profit with all employees, and it is a percentage of your annual wage.

I guess if your company is sharing the percentage of your annual wage, it sounds nice. It must be worth working for them.
My trick is always having low expectations. When I think it's going to be some amazing thing, it's always a letdown. But when I assume we're getting keychains or something, I'm pleasantly surprised.

You are right. Low expectations are a key. I guess having high hopes and then getting less than what you expected would lead to frustation.

We don’t get any incentives for the holidays. We’re just expected to work harder and push some numbers so our managers can get their bonuses

Oh! You reminded me my old job where we were expected to sell mastercard of that retail store to people along with doing all other job duties and more people sold mastercard, more bonus our manager got. And how much we got? Nothing.
