Oracle India Hi Fishes,
Does anyone can suggest me what to do? I recently joined oracle as a staff Consultant supposed to work as a Java developer but working on their utility framework. I don't have any interest in this. I want to work on Java with springboot development projects.Oracle India
Just signed the outside employment form in KPMG onboarding system. I actually wanted to start dabbling in creative writing as a potentially monetizable hobby, but I'm guessing this may pose issues.
Definitely interested in the "exception from this policy may be requested if provision of non-professional services doesn't interfere with one's duties of causes conflict of interest" clause, though. Has anyone been able to get one of those before?

I was/am a supply chain specialist. @4 yrs in consulting I went to a client for 5 yrs and then returned back to my firm for another 20+ years. Having a “real job” for a while made me a better consultant
Great perspective, considering doing similar, thanks!
Here's a predictable consulting response - it depends. There's a possibility that a long term investment with your firm will pay off if that practice does grow, but it's anyone's guess if and when that will happen.
Same would apply to an industry job, except I'd argue you may have more role definition within industry than consulting (at many firms, you are staffed wherever they put you without your say, especially as a junior resource).
If you aren't happy, aren't growing at a pace you're happy with, and don't legitimately belive in the future of your firm or role, I'd say it would be a good time to test the waters elsewhere.
Yeah, I definitely think this firm’s mission to grow their SCM presence is going to be successful, but I don’t love some of the core operations of the firm and don’t necessarily see myself growing here. Maybe it’s joining in covid that has me more frustrated than normal, but personally don’t see myself staying long term.
Agree with you though that industry would likely lead to better role definition, and likely working with more experts, and as long as I like the role it could be fruitful. I worry I don’t have enough relevant experience to get an industry position that pays at least 80% of what I make now, looking for at least 110k…if you have any recommendations/thoughts
Probably going to try to get through a year at the current role and see if it turns around at all
I went from consulting to industry and now I’m back to consulting. Depending on where you are for industry you can learn a lot but you’ll only learn about the one role you’re in. Consulting gives your wider variety of learning opportunity. On the flip side, I understand my clients pain points a lot more since I’ve lived in the industry side. I would say it helps a lot to have that experience too. It’s personal preference.
For sure! Just look at the skills needed for the role and what you’d be able to learn on the job. Helps gauge which ones to apply to
Consulting 100% has been more enjoyable for me. Was VP in industry for a few years and it gets stale and politics frustrating. Plus with covid now travel isnt the issue it was before.
In school I loved my internship in global supply chain that was in industry and learned a lot about planning, supplier negotiation, etc. and had a wonderful manager to boot.
My first stint in consulting 2.5 years, I was working on an ERP system that was SCM related but ended up doing a lot of tech PM work. It was very transferable, but not 100% in line with the goals I had above.
My last half year+ have been with a smaller consulting firm that has a newer SCM space, my first project was really interesting but the organization wasn’t ready for it and there was some political drama above my head that didn’t make it the most enjoyable experience. Now I’m on the bench because it’s a newer SCM space and a few folks above me have left because it’s definitely a slow startup for the business. I definitely feel that the goals above aren’t being met.
Is meeting these goals a pipe dream? Is it possible in a consulting environment or better off trying to move in industry.
Are you me?
Haha same goals. Wanted to be SCM expert in consulting ended up doing tech work and feel like I'm hitting a wall after 4 years.
Pay is great but the circumstances haven't led me to where I wanted to be.
Hahah glad to know I’m not alone, I’m nervous to continue pursuing it because if I don’t like it then I don’t know what I’d go back to
