Why would you do this? What are the benefits?
I went to Cuba a few months ago and almost no one takes credit cards. Best to just travel with cash.
Amex. No currency fee credit card.
D1 and A1 - US based bank cards and credit cards don't work in Cuba due to the embargo. If a place does accept a credit card (which is very rare) it has to be a non US bank that has no United States operations. With the lack of credit card infrastructure and difficulty finding a card that even would be accepted in Cuba, cash is the way to go
You can use a card like the Charles Schwab debit card to withdraw from any ATM in the world. You don't have to carry any cash.
I did a week in Cuba with $500 in cash, so not bad. All accommodation was paid for, so this was just spending money. Be aware of the difference between CUC and CUP!
Get a Charles Schwab checking account, no fee debit card. Or the CSR doesn't charge exchange fees.
It would be nice to have a non-US debit card. It's annoying to have to travel with so much cash.
Cash is always king.
Totally agree KPMG1. I was just there and my cards (Chase) didn't work, which I knew in advance. Just saying it would be nice to be able to withdraw money while you're there for a longer trip. My European friends could do this. I probably would look into something like the Charles Schwab debit card if I went for longer than a week again. Thanks for the tip A1.
Ok. Makes sense. Thanks for the knowledge.
