McKinsey & Company Has any industry experienced candidates pivot to MBB Engagement Manager before? My roommate works at FAANG as Senior Analyst (Ops, 6+ YOE) and was approached by McKinsey & Company recruiter for an EM role. He hasn’t done consulting before. Would this be too much of a risk? His goal is to pivot to PE S&O eventually.

Cleared Accenture Skill interview by answering almost all the questions and received congratulatory mail for HR round and submitting all documents. Then after a week received a call from HR saying that due to some technical issue, the skills round will happen again and an online assessment was set up. In the assessment, questions which were not directly related to the profile were asked and then a rejection mail was received. Does this happen a lot?

I have worked mostly in branding/design agencies and recently did a stint in an ad agency. Good differences (for me): agency work gets in the world faster and with more consideration for media and targeted comms. And you get credit for your work as an individual and agency much more. Most brand work is uncredited so less focus on campaigns/awards. Bad differences (again, for me): agency work at least at a big agency is still very comms-focused with some view toward UX and experience strategy. But in the right consultancy/brand agency/design studio you can touch business/brand strategy, org design, innovation, employee engagement, UX, visual design, etc. I like working with designers and liked the process of making ads less. There were cultural differences for me, too. Branding agencies/consultancies strike me as a little less cynical. Reading Fishbowl seems to confirm that. One person’s view! Fun people and good work to be had on both sides.
