I don’t think OP is saying parenting isn’t hard or a viable excuse. They seem to be saying that one is more tangible and can be more easily seen/understood, whereas the other is not tangible and is also usually seen as an issue with character.
Who the hell does this? Seriously asking. I don’t know a single parent using their baby as an excuse for not meeting deadlines. Most parents are going above and beyond to stay current with their workload

That’s pretty crappy if your boss is indeed using their kid as a prop like that. While everyone has their own things they have to work around while being stuck at home I’m a big fan of everyone ‘keeping their problems to themselves.’ It’s just part of stepping up.
