That's plenty, you'll be more than fine. Ditch the car and take metro to work till you make $140k+++
Keep the car - have the same background and everything as you OP, same salary, from the west coast
It’s so nice to get out of the city, and if you ever decide you need to get out of this area, it will be nice to have
Keep the beater or get rid of it. You’ll need to pay $100+ a month to park. Virginia also charges property tax every year on cars based on value. My friend has a 2019 Hyundai and pays $1200 a year of tax... keep the beater. I have an older car and still need to pay $150 of property tax each year
Keep the beater car. Car loans are one of the worst loans to have (its a depreciating asset with lots of upkeep). I say save up until you can pay are car completely off is your best option. Second option is if you can get a 0% finance for 60-72 months.
Why dont you get a 1 br and sleep next to each other? you could save more than 300-400. You'll even have a cuddle buddy.
Weird flex, 78k is PLENTY for Arlington. You’re responsible for having a roommate because you could prob afford a studio by yourself for more. Buckle down for a couple years, pay down your loans, and then you’ll be in great financial shape
Ditch car if you’re metro adjacent/if you don’t need it for client work. If you do need a car, keep the beater. Probably better to invest the extra $$ into paying off loans faster or kicking more into a long-term savings account that will appreciate in value over time.
Cars are fun but they aren’t exactly a good financial investment if you already have one in working condition. You have your whole career to buy something fancy, and can go all out when you’re more financially secure
