Cry me a river 🙄
Maybe it shouldn’t be posted here for sympathy but there is nothing wrong with making $190k and still feeling like you deserve a bigger raise
5–6 years between raises and I’ll never make close to 190. My heart bleeds for you.
Depends on OP situation. If he/she is married with kids and only one income in an expensive city that amount is far less glamorous. They are likely living comfortably but not extravagantly.
^ That is a part of the reason agencies are failing. I feel like agencies liken themselves to a family structure. But I would never treat someone I loved and cared about this way. If I truly wanted to take care of them and watch them grow I would reward and praise them when they put forth the effort and succeed. I do this with my own children. I certainly would not want my significant other entertaining another suitor to show me how important they are.
Really gutted for you OP. Sorry to see the snarky comments... can’t people just be supportive and happy for people who are doing well?! What happened to you all to be this miserable! OP, I relate to this - loyalty, hard work, promotions.. and then got told no pay rise. That was also after two years and the last 6 months involved a lot of conversations about expectations on both sides about progression and compensation. For me, I ended up leaving. I was sad to go but loyalty doesn’t give me more money! If it’s too late to discuss it further, i’d look elsewhere. But definitely don’t leave if you think there’s hope to resolve.
You poor thing
You all should become CDs if you feel so screwed over. You make your own decisions. OP, that suuucks. I have always had to move agencies to make more money. And if OP is in New York that definitely ain’t a luxurious lifestyle salary.
@EVP ECD1. That’s been my experience. Not just with my own career, but seeing others as well. It’s really not a smart business model. You burn out your employees, it contributes to low morale and you unnecessarily disrupt your company culture. And then agencies wonder why they have high turnover.
Z1....but...they literally GOT a raise. Entry level people who have student loans and no money saved are waiting 3 years for a $2.5k raise on top of their $35k salary AND are constantly told to stop being so entitled. I would never feel bad for someone’s raise who is now making $196k.
🎻 weeping for you 🧐
I’d be insulted by that raise on that base
3% cost of living increase. Not something to complain about considering the majority in our business only get increases when switch jobs.
Sad truth is, agencies rarely give a significant raise unless it’s a counter offer. The thought process is that if someone’s good enough to get another offer, then that proves they’re worth more.
EVP ECD 1. Idk, I have been at three different agencies in three different cities and they were each different in how they treated people with raises and bonuses. Each was under large holding companies too. The worst was in NYC nada for no one. My best bosses have been ECDs, most human of all, fighting for their people, btw.
For the record, I wasn’t complaining or out for sympathy. More like, "whelp, that’s advertising.”
You should have stayed at $190k and asked for a bonus instead. Now you’re in a new tax bracket taking home less money at the end of the day. $189k + bonus is the best possible deal you can have.
You would think an Analytics Director would have at least some idea of how tax works
