Vanguard total stock market index fund VTSMX ($3k to start), then expand to total international stock market and total bond market funds as well (also $3k each to start). It's known as the 3 fund portfolio strategy....then don't look at it for 10 years.

Use Wealthfront. Invest in index funds with no fees at all for the first $15k

like

Roth IRA into an S&P 500 Index Fund. With compounding, you'll have a quadruple or a quint by the time you retire.

like

Stop wasting money on betterment or wealthfront!!! They charge outrageous fees. Choose something that's actually long term and would help towards your retirement like a simple vanguard individual account!!

like

Depends on your risk tolerance, expendable income and expected returns

Also...as many of us exceed the max MAGI for a ROTH IRA...look into a "Backdoor IRA" (via Google or Bogleheads to start)

Buy gold and silver.

Make sure you're making use of all the tax advantages accounts before opening a traditional brokerage account. IRA, 401K, and HSA. Then I'd suggest opening a vanguard brokerage account.

Roth IRA

P4 - make sure you don't run afoul with your firm's independence restrictions with index funds.

E3-Be careful with Roth IRAs. Your income has to be under a certain amount. I Passed up the limit a long time ago.

Betterment or wealthfront

D2 ... Thank you and good point. OP, if you choose a Roth with an Index fund, make sure you go through independence.

Anyone from Embark able to tell me about some benefits you have. Like how long is Paternity leave and do you have to be with the firm for a year to use it? Also what health insurance do you have? I saw that Embark fully pays premiums but if it’s a junk insurance company then that’s not so great haha.
Also how often are you traveling / in office? Thanks!

Any benefits if we complete wings 1 assessment..?

Random question - My dad took a whole life insurance policy for me when I was 15. Although the policy relates to me, the name of the policyholder is my dad and I would like to change it to me but keep the same beneficiaries. Is it possible to transfer from him to me? (This policy relates to my death btw)

I’m currently an LLC and looking to assemble an equity deal with an advisor. I don’t know how to set it up with him where he gets his equity in the future when we restructure the entity to a c/s Corp and give out his shares. It doesn’t make sense for us to switch now and get double taxed when we haven’t lifted off the ground. This is pre launch. Any advice?

I just left my pre-seed startup that was running out of cash (we made $100,000 in revenue this year, and sunk $1m in costs). I was making $40,000 as a developer (plus 20k stock options at $1/share per year) and they refused to pay me any more money. I have 17,000 vested stock options, total number of shares at the time of my contract was 4million. I’m a bit confused about share dilution and if it’s worth it for me to buy some of my stock options… thanks in adv!

I applied for a job at a well-known healthcare company a couple of months ago. I had a number of remote interviews and then they asked me to fly out for a final round of in-person interviews. Later that week they told me that they were going to be making an offer. Another week has gone by and still no offer. They said they are still working on it. Is this the new norm for recruiting? I have other offers and can't keep waiting for these foot draggers.

$530k HHI, $250k cash on hand, $1.2M investments/retirement. Plan to buy $800-900k house as our first home, but thinking of the best approach given rates today. My thinking is that we (i) put $200k+ down and get a 5/1 ARM. (ii) put everything we save moving forward toward paying down the principal (after maximizing retirement accounts). Should be able to do $100k per year. (iii) If rates go down below 4.5ish % for 15 year fixed, refinance and stop aggressive payment. Thoughts on this approach?

Can anyone give me their honest opinion on working at Eli Lilly, the Indy site? I have a few coworkers that have worked there in the past but no one recently. I’m currently being recruited pretty seriously for a in-vivo technician position in the auto-immune team, but I already have a job lined up at Envigo as a small animal sx tech. Salaries would be comparable (Lilly would most likely be a little more with bonuses), but if the culture sucks, I’d hate to burn a bridge with Envigo.
