We all know climbing to the top of our field takes a lot of sacrifices. Sacrifices I dare say the men in our field aren’t expected to make. Did anyone else forgo having a family for a successful career?

I notice a difference in women who just did not want to have a family/kids in general and those who wanted to but did not for the sake of their career. I often see regret in the eyes of the latter, especially when they come across women who seem to have done both (while sacrificing in other ways, often overlooked).

I definitely put work above dating… and now that I’m back to dating I have some… concerns about the eligible bachelors

I didn’t forgo having kids specifically for my career, I just didn’t feel the need to have them and all the work that goes along with it on top of my job/career. I’m the breadwinner in our family. Seeing friends balance career + kids is a lot of work and sacrifice, especially when they’re young. Kudos to those that do it, but it was never for me.
Keep in mind “family” doesn’t just mean having kids. My family is me, my husband, and our 3 pets, and I’m very happy we don’t have kids!

I did but I’m also still single. I also froze many eggs when younger so I guess it’s still an option. Realistically speaking though, I don’t see myself getting married or having kids

like

Unintentionally I did.

Had my eggs frozen so I'm not in a rush. I don't really want kids at the moment but I am afraid I'll regret it later on in life if I don't. Like when you are nearing the end of career... then what?

A couple falls in love and moves in together. One person is wealthy and the other is not. The wealthy partner pays for most of the basic home necessities. The wealthy partner also pays for expensive car repairs and college tuition for the children of the less wealthy partner. Then, the couple breaks up. Does the wealthy partner have rights to reimbursement? They never married.

Perhaps not directly relevant, but I have a difficult family background. Never known my dad, my mom had serious drug/mental health issues. Grew up with grandparents and aunt & uncle. Somehow I miraculously did well in school and ended up in big law. For Christmas I plan on faking quarantine to explain why I’ll be alone, though I want to be more upfront with colleagues, friends and potential partners, but I’m afraid my story will appear off-putting to them. Or will it reflect positively on me?

Been questioning my friendship with a group of girls. Really close to them before (been hanging out since high school), but all they do is gossip, shop, and talk about superficial things, and I just started realizing how our interests are different too in the recent years. When is it time to drop the friendship if you feel like the odd one out?

Anyone marry their law school sweetheart?

I don’t understand how someone can lie about loving you for 6 months. We were together for almost a year (broke up a week before our anniversary). I said I love you first and he said it back. I asked for more reassurance last month with saying I love you more often. Now all of a sudden he said he didn’t know if he loved me and that love meant marriage for him. Okay well great thanks for telling me this now, 6 months after it was initially exchanged. I don’t understand how he could do that.

One of my closest friends have become so incredibly negative and self obsessed with her petty problems lately. I feel like all I do everyday is listen to her whine and complain! I’ve been trying to be supportive but at the same time I’m making positive changes in my own life and in my own mindset. How can I continue to be supportive while her attitude and negativity affect me and weigh me down? 😩
