We get a very generic email (not personalized outside of name and numbers) providing our bonus amount and salary increase for the next year. It comes from managing partner who is not chatty and barely replies to emails. Do y’all respond to these? Just a simple “Thank you”? Classic overthinker here 😬

I’d say a simple “Thank you. Happy Holidays!” would suffice.

I don't respond

You know that every dime of salary or bonus or benefits could have stayed in the partners pockets. Didn’t your mama teach you how to say “thank you”😉

like

I’m from the south so this is definitely how I think! But I sorta feel like the partner eye rolls unnecessary emails. Or any emails. Because I rarely get replies 😬

like

Yes I would just say thank you for this information. Could throw in a happy holidays.

like

I usually respond ... "Thank you and Happy Holidays"

Lol I usually wouldn’t respond or overthink this, but my previous boss told me at a performance review that “it’s rude” that I “don’t respond to information and say thank you” and I was like - well I don’t like when my inbox is flooded with unnecessary & not actionable messages so I try to spare others 🤷‍♀️

Definitely worked for people like that before too and it’s obnoxious.

I don’t respond.

You should absolutely reply to acknowledge a pay raise or bonus with some kind of gratitude. Seems exceptionally rude not to. They are literally giving you something. But I am a please and thank you person.

like

Don’t respond? If it’s generic, I don’t think it warrants a response.

This is twice now in back to back weeks my boss has asked me where the disconnect was in our communications because I didn’t deliver on what “was asked”, even though I know damn well what was asked and what was done were the same thing. I’m not sure if he’s changing the meaning or isn’t communicating what he’s envisioning or what but it’s embarrassing to be called out like that, and to have people think you’re the dumb 23 year old.

Just got let go and my manager said part of it was because I was looking for other jobs. I didn't look for other jobs at work, so I'm not sure how they could have known that unless a coworker snitched on me. Is it worth it to try and find out who or should I just leave it? Can't deny that I'm seriously pissed off about it.

Welp! Finally got the axe today too. I didn’t even get to talk to my manager. One of the execs I support told me he’s very sorry and I was great, etc etc, but it couldn’t be avoided. Whatever. I kind of never want to work again. I’m heartbroken.

“Keep costs down”???? I am happy to keep costs down by not working on this ducking matter anymore. Maybe stop saying yes to matters that are too small to justify our rates and staffing an expensive senior person on them when you’re already dying trying to get anything staffed. You didn’t have to do shit on this matter, didn’t hear you complaining about my taking the lead and managing everything for you when that was happening. >.>
