I usually just call 3 insurance companies and get quotes that match what I have so I can compare apples to apples. Some agents will try to give you different values (dwelling replacement, deductibles, medical, etc) which makes it hard to compare. The usuals are Progressive, Farmers, Geico, Allstate, Liberty Mutual. A broker can work as well. They will shop through many companies. Getting ready to do this next week. Good practice to do this every 3-5 yrs. Good luck.
Not out by you but I shop my insurance every couple years.
You will overpay if you don't
Yes, USAA is more expensive in cases, however I value them because of their support when I make a claim. I have had them for almost 40 years now and they have always been supportive with the claims process. Reaching out pro-actively, encouraged me to make a claim on a computer damaged by surge after I just called to see if it was covered (when computers were expensive). They are more tech based now with use of messaging and apps than when I first started which I don't like but they have never denied a claim or rejected a request to increase the amount covered. In insurance, I think you get what you pay for and for the rare instances I need it, I would rather have good service support even if I have to pay more for it.
This is what I was going to say too. I’ve had USAA for years now, and when I’ve had to make a claim it’s been so smooth and easy. To me this is worth the extra cost (even though I believe they are still very competitive). When you are in a situation where you need to make a claim, you’re already stressed, worried, etc. Having an insurance company that makes the claim part easy to remove some of that stress is practically priceless.
I just moved over all 4 of my policies (same as yours) to AAA from Geico. As D1 mentioned, shop around.
Also in Westchester - we have NYCM for all of our insurance (home, auto, umbrella). It's OK. Homeowners feels a little high, but all of the insurance companies jacked up rates after covid supposedly because building materials are more expensive.
Same as you at USAA (25+ year member). I shopped online and found same coverage for $1k less per year. It got my attention.
I am going to contact USAA first and ask them to match/beat the quotes I have. If not, then I will likely be switching.

I don’t seem to receive a dividend, so this is good to know!
USAA is usually good especially for military families but in some places like Westchester it can be more expensive than other companies Better options for your area is Chubb great for expensive homes, State Farm one of the lowest prices in NY as an independent insurance broker who works in Westchester County.I can assist you futher find better prices or better coverage for the same money.I know Westchester County well i understand local risks flooding near the Hudson area older homes and i know which companies are willing to insure properties there at good rates. Have an amazing day sir hope i helped you

Thanks all - do you find what is included across the board in policies is basically the same? Do you read every bit of fine print?
Usually the coverage is very very similar.
I've been told prices vary across insurance companies depending on how they did financially in the year before, whether there were certain widespread costly incidents (like wild fires, earthquakes, wind damage) in your wider region, or just whether they think they can get away with it without losing a bunch of customers -- it seems few people actually pay attention, so they can raise rates with little attrition.
I made a commitment to myself to review insurance every two years because of all this.
I am also in Westchester. I used an independent insurance broker (at no cost to me) and she compared about 20 different insurance companies. Like you, I needed, home, car, umbrella. If you want her info I can share it privately. Nothing sketchy, she works for an agency.
I ended up with NYCM (New York Central Mutual Fire Insurance Company) www.nycm.com. But like others here have said, it really pays to shop around every couple years because everyone's situation is different and rates change over time.
We like Amica. We are in the same area
I use USAA for all my insurance needs and have never found better prices elsewhere.
Pro
I use State Farm and they have given me the best deals so far . Also in westchester . Dm me and I can give you my agent . She is very fair and doesn’t hurt to get a quote
Insurance brokers can be good. Alwasy check their backgrounds and reputation. USAA is usually pretty good. Check thoroughly as many fo the "great dea;s" may just want your business, regardless
