If you want to control every aspect of your kids' schooling, homeschool them. Don't expect to send your kids to school and have the school homeschool them exactly the way you'd like. It's a GOOD thing for kids to encounter other points of views than yours, but if you as a parent want to deny them that, you should be forced to do the work yourself.
I'd bet money that parent is one that won't answer the phone or respond when you call about their kid's misbehavior in class.

I'm sorry. What books did you pick?
It's gotten so much worse since Covid. I never thought I'd miss the era when parents couldn't be bothered to come to conferences.
I direct these types of parents right to my principal. There’s very little I can actually control when it comes to the resources I use and the content I teach in my classroom.
This is one of the reasons we are offering student choice as much as possible. After reading our anchor text, students choose from a list of texts of the same genre. This is also a good way to differentiate for students with lower reading skills. They still analyze using the same elements, but may be reading something at a slightly lower Lexile. If parents find a text offensive or inappropriate, their student can read one of the others.
I’ve had parents complain about reading “Romeo and Juliet” in ninth grade. Apparently, many, many parents want only “Dora the Explorer” or the Magic Treehouse series (or maybe they’d complain about the “magic”) until their kids graduate high school. 🤨
(ps: I loved reading Magic Treehouse to my own kids, before anyone gets the idea I hate either of those I mentioned.)
What is the stool theory?

Kids' learning depends on the school, that kid, and the parent. Three legs of a stool--if any one is broken, it falls over.
Sometimes it's the school, the government, and the parents, or some other list, but the idea is the same.
I can’t give you an advice or my perspective without knowing exactly what book you picked. What book did you pick?
It all comes down to your administration. If the admin has your back and knows how to handle irate parents, you're all set. If not, you will lose. It's as simple as that.
